In IPL 2024 news, Delhi Capitals and their captain, Rishabh Pant, are facing significant penalties for not keeping up with the rules during their match against Rajasthan Royals. This isn't the first time Delhi Capitals have been fined for the same issue in this year's IPL. The BCCI has slapped a hefty fine of ₹30 lakh on Rishabh Pant, and he's also suspended for one match.
The slow over-rate during Match 56 led to these penalties. All players in the team's playing eleven, including the 'Impact Player,' are also fined, with penalties of up to ₹12 lakh or 50% of their match fee, whichever is lower.
Delhi Capitals appealed against the hefty fine, but the BCCI Ombudsman upheld the decision after a virtual hearing.
With Pant suspended, Delhi Capitals will need to name a new stand-in captain for their next match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. This year, the BCCI has been strict about enforcing the IPL Code of Conduct and hasn't hesitated to impose fines on those who breach it.
