YouTube TV Price is Going Up Again: What You Need to Know

Are you subscribed to YouTube TV? Get ready to pay more soon.

YouTube recently announced a $10 price increase for its base streaming plan, bringing the monthly cost to $82.99. For new subscribers, this change is already in effect. Existing subscribers will see the new price starting January 13, 2024.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), YouTube explained that the price hike is due to the rising cost of content and ongoing investments. The company assured customers that these decisions are not taken lightly. If you’re on a discounted plan or trial, your price won’t go up until your current deal ends.

A History of Price Increases

YouTube TV launched in 2017 at just $35 per month. By 2019, the price climbed to $50, and since then, it has continued to rise. In March 2023, YouTube TV raised its base price to $72.99, and now it’s going up again. Initially, price increases came as YouTube TV added more channels and features. However, recent hikes are mainly attributed to higher operational costs.

What You Still Get

Despite the higher cost, YouTube TV isn’t reducing its offerings. Subscribers will still have access to over 100 live channels, including broadcast, cable, and regional sports networks. Features like unlimited DVR storage and support for up to six accounts per household with three simultaneous streams remain unchanged.

A Growing Trend in Streaming Costs

Streaming services are becoming more expensive across the board. Big names like Netflix, Disney+, and Apple TV+ have all raised prices recently or introduced options like ad-supported plans and restrictions on password sharing.

Bundles are also gaining popularity. YouTube TV’s new price of $82.99 is now on par with Disney’s Hulu + Live TV bundle, which also includes live channels.

How Popular is YouTube TV?

As of February 2024, YouTube reported having over 8 million subscribers on its platform.
