OpenAI announced early Thursday that its ChatGPT assistant, Sora video generator, and developer programming tools were back up and running after being offline for several hours.
ChatGPT has become incredibly popular, with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman revealing on December 4 that the platform is used by 300 million people every week. On Wednesday, Apple rolled out updates for iPhones, iPads, and Macs that include new integrations with ChatGPT.
According to OpenAI's status page, the recent outage lasted a little over four hours. A similar incident in June kept the platform down for more than five hours.
OpenAI has grown rapidly in value, reaching $157 billion during a funding round in October that included major investors like Microsoft and Nvidia. The company's success took off after ChatGPT launched in late 2022, making it one of the biggest tech stories of recent years.
Earlier this week, OpenAI began releasing its new tool, Sora, to users in the U.S. and many other countries. However, on Tuesday, Altman admitted on social media that they had underestimated the demand for Sora, saying it would take time to provide access to everyone.
